Erosion Control and Soil Stabilization Tensar Geogrids
Tensar Geogrids

Tensar® Biaxial (BX) and Uniaxial (UX) geogrids permit heavy construction on sites with weak soils, eliminating all or most other foundation and/or soil stabilization work. Structural geogrids provide a reliable, cost-effective method for increasing the stability of weak soils in a variety of applications including retaining walls, slopes, streets, and parking lots. By internally reinforcing all types of soils and construction fill material, Tensar geogrids create a stiffened, reinforced  prism capable of supporting critical, engineered structures.

Made from continuous sheets of select polypropylene and high-density polyethelene, they are manufactured through a  specialized process that results in maximum strength for a variety of applications.

Product Highlights: Tensar Geogrids

Retaining Wall and Reinforced Slope

SierraScape® Retaining Wall Systems, the only wire-formed retaining wall systems with a positive connection between wire form and geogrid reinforcement are typically utilized on commercial, industrial, and transportation projects.

Sierra® Slope Retention Systems are typically used in combination with or in place of retaining walls on commercial, industrial, and residential projects, as well as highway projects.

Foundation Improvement

Prism® Foundation Improvement Systems are typically used for the construction of embankments, bridge approach fills, causeways, levees, and dikes over soft ground. They consist of a composite soil and geogrid structure which creates an expedient, reliable, cost-effective embankment foundation similar to a concrete raft foundation.

Dimension® Foundation Improvement Systems are used for foundation improvement where poor soils can threaten to substantially increase project costs. A composite, Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) system, the Dimension System combines cohesionless soil and Tensar geogrids to create a stiffened platform over weak, compressible soils. As such, they function like a concrete raft foundation without concrete's time and expense.

Roadway Improvement

Spectra® Roadway Improvement Systems are typically used beneath roadways, haul roads, railyards, runways, construction platforms, and parking lots to increase structural capacity, provide pavement reinforcement that will extend pavement life, and improve pavement durability. The Spectra System combines Tensar geogrid with crushed aggregate and/or granular fill to improve subgrade and base course performance, all with less undercutting and lower material costs. The result is more durable and cost-efficient pavement.

Features and Benefits

  • UX Geogrids made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resins resist elongation (creep) when subjected to high loads for long periods of time
  • BX Geogrids made from select grades of polypropylene or copolymers that resist high, short-term dynamic loads or moderate loads over longer time periods
  • Resistant to physical deterioration and loss of strength caused by aggressive chemical environments
  • Open-aperture structure interlocks with natural fill materials
  • Speeds construction over weak soils while reducing costs
  • Improves overall performance of completed flexible pavement system regardless of underlying soil conditions
